If your surface preparation needs to go beyond scotchbrite buffing and cloth wheel polishing, Surgical Constructs offers an (E.P.) Electropolishing service for numerous grades of stainless. EP is an electrochemical process in which material is removed predominately from the outer surface.
ID electropolishing is also possible with specialized racks. EP can be utilized to remove contaminates that may become embedded into the surface from cutting tools used to machine, turn or even buff the parts. Not only does it remove the potential microscopic fragments it also provides a smooth even surface. Current densities are higher at peaks and crests of the base material so it is ideal for removing burrs on cutting edges. As a result EP minimizes any potential stress risers, provides for a passive and virtually corrosion resistant product.
If EP is not a requirement of yours and you only wish to target free iron and surface contaminates then passivation is the answer. Surgical Constructs offers a Citric passivation line conforming to ASTM A967 requirments.
